Carriers of the Hearth-Newest Collage

This is my latest collage. It's entitled "Carriers of the Hearth". It is part of my ongoing collage series called Basket Women. The basket women art is inspired by women who carry their livelihoods on their heads to market. Who sometimes have to work the impossible to feed their families.

The background is watercolor. I painted this on 8 1/2 by 11 paper. I was going to use that cool green background for another project, but I didn't want to cut it up. I used a lot of my favorite elements: space and stars, flowers, cowrie shells, butterflies and fire too!

The hem on the bottom of their skirts was a photo of a mosaic that I really love and I'm glad I finally got to use it.
